After I’d checked in to my little room, I took the short walk down the hill and into town. I don’t know what Queenstown would be like on any other day of the week or time of the year, but it was quiet now. Lots of shops and cafes were closed. But still, it had a coolness about it too. Like Byron Bay is for surfers, I imagined Queenstown to be for skiers and snow-boarders. I sat outside a bar in the harbour. I was wearing most of my clothes, at least five layers, but still I chose a seat directly underneath a heater. And I covered myself in the blanket hanging on the back of my chair.
