I slept horribly the night after my massive Crown Range drive and Mount Iron adventure. Which was odd. Especially as I was in such a cosy and comfortable lake-side apartment, courtesy of a lovely London friend with a Kiwi connection. I wondered if it wasn’t because my far-away son called to tell me he’d booked his flight back to London after four and a half long years away. He’s excited, and I’m excited for him. Although admittedly, it does feel strange that I won’t be there.
So, there’s no denying I felt lazy the next morning. And when I did eventually head out, it was only to take a gentle stroll around the third biggest lake in New Zealand, Lake Wanaka. I stumbled upon what the locals call, That Tree. And I also found Nicky and Nicky and Pip. Who I spent the afternoon with, guzzling stout and eating sea food at The Lake Bar. It was warm. So we sat outside and didn’t need a heater.
