The lake is nestled in ancient forest and is famous for its mirror views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. I took a slow walk around the 3km perimeter, bumping into only one other group of people on the way. It was icy and peaceful and wild and beautiful. I watched the weather roll in and was glad that once again, I was wearing all my clothes.
